HUNGER IN OREGON
EDITOR'S NOTE: I got the e-mail (below) Monday.
My question is why is there hunger, at all, in Oregon? Why do 1 in 4 children in Oregon grow up in poverty? Why are there so many homeless families in Oregon, 20,000 or more? Why is unemployment in the non-Metro Oregon - the "other Oregon" still higher than the state average now a historic low of 5.4%. Why is poverty partly an urban/rural divide?
Longterm joblessness remains elevated in Oregon, despite falling unemployment rate
The answer is that the folks in the Puzzle Palace with a working super majority are unwilling to get corporate Oregon to pay its fair share. Instead when corporate lobbyists wave the bloody flag of "jobs" legislators on both sides of the aisle "pimp" for them lavishing their clients with tax breaks galore. It doesn't matter which party is in power, nothing really changes! Until we get tax reform and end Meassure 5 as we "know it" along with putting the fork into the personal kicker - we will always have hunger in Oregon!
It's time for groups like "Partners" to "talk truth to power" instead of being beggars for the most vulnerable Oregonians. But without poverty the bureaucrats of the safety net would be out of a job. Hence the "conspiracy of silence" about how to get beyond band aid approaches to poverty. Legislators are complicit in this charade. They claim we have limited resources. Bull shit - what we have is limited political will. When one is bought and paid for via campaign contributions by the highest bidders we know the game is rigged.
By contrast there is no limit to tax breaks for the 1%, corporate Oregon or banks too big to fail!

We are thrilled to announce that 30,000 Oregon children will have better access to nutritious lunch! On Thursday, April 9, Governor Brown signed a measure eliminating the school lunch copay. Children and families who are eligible for the reduced-price rate will no longer have to worry about paying for school lunch. The ability for kids to eat a healthy, nutritious lunch every day, free of charge is foundational for their academic success, and benefits us all.
Join us in celebrating our biggest win of the legislative session thus far!
Thank you for your support!
